Free Cancellation - Full refund up to 24 hours before the experience starts (Local time) Discover the best of Copenhagen in a friendly, personal way on this small group walking tour that combines iconic sights, hidden corners, and a scenic ride on the city’s electric harbor ferry, ending with the iconic Changing of the Guards at Amalienborg Palace.
Description
To keep the experience personal and interactive, we cap the group at 8 guests. That means more time for questions, stories, and a relaxed pace—perfect for first-time visitors, new residents, or locals seeing Copenhagen with new eyes.
We meet at 9:30 AM at Niels Brock Gade 9, where you will be greeted with a complimentary coffee before we begin.
Our walk starts with a true Copenhagen must-see: Christiansborg Palace. From there, we head toward the ferry while passing several beautiful and meaningful spots along the way, including the Library Garden, the Danish Jewish Museum, and the modern waterfront icon The Black Diamond.
Then we board the electric harbor ferry for a scenic ride and a different perspective of the city from the water. Your guide will share local insights, fun facts, and small details that most visitors would otherwise miss.
After the ferry crossing, we continue on foot to more top highlights, including the 17th-century star-shaped fortress Kastellet and the world-famous Little Mermaid.
If the ferry is unavailable or fully booked (this can happen during busy periods, especially afternoons and weekends in high season), we will follow an alternative canal-side walking route instead—offering the same great views, with about two extra kilometers of walking.
Itinerary
Start: Niels Brocks Gade 9 (4 Minutes’ Walk from Central Station)
We meet at Niels Brocks Gade 9, only a 4-minute walk from Copenhagen Central Station. Your guide will be waiting in front of Yilan Café, and to start the experience on a cozy note, you will enjoy a complimentary coffee upon arrival.
Tivoli Gardens
We will make a stop by Tivoli Gardens, where your guide will tell the fascinating story behind one of Copenhagen’s most iconic landmarks, including its founding, historical significance, and its influence on Walt Disney’s vision for Disneyland.
New Carlsberg Glyptotek
Glyptoteket, a glimpse of grandeur from the outside We’ll stop by the impressive Glyptoteket, one of Copenhagen’s most beautiful buildings. Founded by Carlsberg’s founder Carl Jacobsen, this museum is known not only for its world-class art collection, but also for its stunning architecture. From the outside, you’ll get a great view of its grand façade and the glass dome of the tropical winter garden inside. A quick but memorable stop that blends culture, history, and a touch of elegance.
Christiansborg Palace
Our next stop is Christiansborg Palace, one of Copenhagen’s most historic and important landmarks. Located on Slotsholmen, it is at the heart of Danish political life and houses the Parliament, the Supreme Court, and the Prime Minister’s Office, while still being used by the Royal Family for official events.
The Royal Library (The Black Diamond)
From Christiansborg, we will continue on foot toward the canal. Along the way, you will see several notable landmarks, including the Royal Arsenal Museum, the peaceful Royal Library Garden, and the striking Black Diamond, the modern waterfront home of the Royal Danish Library.
The Canal Ferry (Yellow harbour bus)
It is now time to experience something a little different and exciting: the canal ferry. We will board the ferry in front of the Black Diamond and make our way toward the Little Mermaid. Along the journey, you will enjoy beautiful views of Christianshavn, Paper Island, Nyhavn, the Royal Danish Opera House, and Amalienborg Palace, the current residence of the Danish royal family, all from the water. Please note that during peak summer periods, the ferry may be unavailable due to overcrowding. In that case, we will continue the route on foot along the harbor and still see the same highlights that are normally included in the ferry journey.
Chirtianhavn
From the ferry, you will enjoy a beautiful view of Christianshavn, a district founded by King Christian IV and inspired by the canals of Amsterdam. This area is also home to the famous Freetown Christiania and the iconic Church of Our Saviour.
The Opera (Seen from ferry)
Here is a shorter and polished version: > The next landmark you will see up close is the Royal Danish Opera House. The ferry stops right in front of it, giving you enough time to take photos. Located on Holmen, directly opposite Amalienborg Palace, the Opera House is Denmark’s national opera house. It was designed by Henning Larsen, completed in 2004, and officially opened in January 2005.
The Gefion Fountain
The next landmark you will see up close is the Gefion Fountain, one of Copenhagen’s most impressive fountains. Located next to St. Alban’s Church, it shows the Nordic goddess Gefion driving four oxen in the legendary story of how Zealand was created. Donated by Carl Jacobsen and unveiled in 1908, it is a striking symbol of Danish mythology and history.
The little mermaid
The next landmark you will see is the Little Mermaid, Copenhagen’s most famous statue and one of its most visited attractions. Inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale, the statue was unveiled in 1913 and sits quietly on a rock by the harbor. Today, it stands as a symbol of Denmark’s storytelling tradition and Copenhagen’s close connection to the sea.
Kastellet
The next landmark you will see is Kastellet, one of the best-preserved star-shaped fortresses in Northern Europe. Founded under King Christian IV, it remains an active military area while also welcoming visitors to enjoy its peaceful paths, ramparts, and canals. Its iconic windmill is a reminder of the fortress’s role in preparing for long periods under siege.
The Marble Church
The next landmark you will see is the Marble Church, also known as Frederik’s Church, one of Copenhagen’s most impressive landmarks. Famous for its large green dome inspired by St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, the church was first planned in 1749 as part of the Frederiksstaden district and completed in 1894. It is admired for its grand architecture and beautiful views from the dome.
Amalienborg
> The next landmark you will see is Amalienborg Palace, home of the Danish royal family and one of Copenhagen’s most important landmarks. Built as part of the Frederiksstaden district, the palace complex consists of four elegant buildings surrounding an octagonal square with a statue of King Frederik V at its center. Here, you will also see the Royal Guards and have the chance to take photos near the palace.
The Royal Guards’ March
> On our way from Amalienborg Palace to Nyhavn, you may see the Royal Guards marching toward the palace. They march every day from Rosenborg Castle to Amalienborg as part of the traditional guard change. While watching, it is important to follow the instructions of the local police and staff for everyone’s safety.
End: Nyhavn
The final stop of the tour is Nyhavn, Copenhagen’s most famous canal. Built in the 17th century to allow trading ships to sail directly into the city center, it is known for its colorful historic houses and old wooden ships. Once a busy commercial harbor and lively sailors’ district, today Nyhavn is one of the city’s most photographed places and a symbol of Copenhagen’s maritime history and culture
